A gray day outside did not make for a dull day in SP#1. The whole gang was in great spirits. In fact, I think today was the first skirmish-free day I’ve witnessed since I’ve been there.
Something else happened today that was special. I heard Billy Bob purr for the first time. I was giving him an ear rub, and he was really enjoying it—really leaning into it. That’s when I heard it. At first I bent down to listen more closely, not quite sure: “Is that Billy Bob?” I asked the other cats. Then it grew louder and deeper, and Billy Bob fell over, he was so caught up in the delight of his ear rub. It was definitely Billy Bob. It was the most magical sound I could have possibly heard in that moment.
The more time I spend with this precious bunch, the more clearly I see the world on the outside of the shelter, and the easier it becomes to keep things in perspective. Hearing Billy Bob purr made all of my meaningless stresses melt away. May you all experience the restorative power of the purr.
I took some pictures in black and white today. I will share several below.
